Prepaid Legal Plans- Should You Get It Before You Need It?

By: Mr. Roman Bernard Sloan

In a life that seems to throw all types of obstacles a person's way, one often wonders if there is a way to circumvent these things from having such adverse affects on what is considered normal for us.

When illness grabs ahold of us, we expect our medical insurance to bail us out, we expect the same thing from our car and home insurance companies. But guess what, our legal protection and our identity rights don't mean as much to us as it should.

That's what has made me take a closer look at several companies that offer some type of prepaid legal protection. In researching these prepaid legal companies I question the need for such an added expense to my already growing monthly output.

I contemplate the importance of such a service and wonder if it is sold behind a fear laced message that causes people to take advantage of it quickly.

The last time I needed a lawyer was when my father died and we needed to sort out how the arrangements would be handled and how some inheritance money would be divided.

The problem was that the old man hadn't updated his will in years so we didn't know where to start. In looking through some of this prepaid legal information I see that will prep is something that they take pride in offering to their clients.

Honestly, having a last will and testament drawn up is the furthest thought from my mind at any given time. I probably should get one prepared just in case because it's been reported that an astonishing seventy percent of people will pass away without leaving a will behind.

Most prepaid legal service organizations insist that you get your will professionally done as soon as you join with the organization-actually they highly recommend it.

The interpretation I'm getting from different prepaid legal sources is that they want to be the voice of people who might have legal troubles but can't have lawyers on retainer. Furthermore, I would probably be the equivalent to retaining a whole firm to use at your discretion.

Theoretically, I could be bombarded with legal complications like being detained by law enforcement, collecting a debt from someone who owes me, and preparing my will, and have these situations seen about by my prepaid legal services law professionals.

I could be getting hit with all types of legal situations but I really have none to speak of so getting a prepaid legal service plan wouldn't really make sense to me now. The only thing that could benefit me now could be the last will and testament preparation if I had a few things to leave behind.

Could be that the whole point of having some prepaid legal protection is to prepare for life's "what ifs".
