It sure is the little things that make the most difference especially when it comes to sprucing up your home. It's amazing how one little touch-up can do so much. The small tasks below can be done over the weekend or in just a couple of minutes. You can get the family to join in on the fun too. Quick, easy, AND fun? Sounds good to me. Plant Flowers Flowers can bring back the life to any home but plant some with bright, bold colors and you will see a great improvement. You don't need to buy anything expensive, especially if you're not known for your gardening skills. Cheap, low-maintenance ones like Petunias, Marigolds or Zinnias will do just fine. Whatever type of flower your choose, stick with orange, yellow, and pink hues. They give the happiest look unlike some of the darker colored flowers. Throw in some red mulch for contrast and step back and gloat. Flowers are a nice touch under windows in a flower box, on porches in clay pots, and in flower beds mixed with wood mulch. They create a warm, inviting, and friendly feel, which will make your property look well-cared for and enjoyed. Your local garden center will be able to give you specific suggestions based on your region and purpose for the flowers. A good thing to keep in mind is that annuals are cheaper than perennials so you can get more value for your money. Update Your House Numbers Have you updated the look of your home but forgot to add in the house numbers or do you not even have any? That's ok; it is a pretty small task. Fortunately, it's a cheap, quick and easy one too! If your house numbers are carved into the exterior of your home, be certain they are visible from the street. Nothing is worse than looking for an address that isn't visible. Simply clean out the grooves, paint them a crisp color, and you should be good to go. A fun way to do this is to use a sponge brush from a craft or hardware store. Just dip the sponge into a paint color that contrasts with your home and carefully apply to the grooves. When you're finished, the fresh paint will really have a big impact on the front of your home. If your house numbers are mounted on the exterior of your home by the door or above the garage, you can paint those as well. Just unmount them, clean them, set them on some newspaper, and apply a fresh coat of spray paint. Make sure they are completely dry before re-mounting. If your current house numbers are worn or rusty, you'd be much better off buying new ones. There are many styles to choose from and the prices are rather inexpensive. This also applies to house numbers that are on your mailbox. If they are weathered, torn, or missing, get new ones. You can use stickers or stencils; either are cheap and easy to use. You'll be amazed by how much more valuable new numbers will make your house look. Use these fun, easy, and quick suggestions and you will see a BIG difference in the look of your home. As mentioned, they're small tasks but will greatly increase the value of your home.
