Ensure You Make The Right Bunk Bed Buying Decision

By: Sam J Kerry

You have made the decision to buy a bunk bed but what next ? There are so many different types which one is best for your child ?. Consider these points to help you come to the right decision.

One of the things you will want to do is to go and look at some bunk beds that are already put together. Have a good look and physically check the bunk bed to see how strong it is. Although metal bunks can be attractive some people have found they are not really suitable. Even if you intend to buy online, as the prices will often be better, you should if possible go and look at the set you intend to buy to ensure it matches your requirements.

How large are the children who will be sleeping in the bunk beds? Manufacturers set specific weight limits for their beds, so make sure the bed you are considering meets your requirements. Especially consider the age of the child who will be sleeping in the top bunk. There are safety concerns regarding younger children, so check with either the seller or the manufacturer of the bed for suggested guidelines. As a general rule, bunk beds are not recommended for children under age six.

As your children get older they may no longer be attracted by bunk beds so when making your purchase you may want to think about buying a set that can also be assembled as single beds. These can then also be used to cater for those unexpected visitors.

Before starting to look for your bunk bed its a good idea to decide on the maximum price you are willing to pay. This will save you time in your search and ensure you don't get carried away and spend more that you can afford.

There are now so many different styles and types of bunks some made from metal some from wood it is sometimes difficult to make a decision. So before buying have a good look at the decor in the room the bed will be going and this will help you choose the bed that will fit in best.

The size of the children's room makes a difference too. Some bunk beds take more space if they have a double bed on the bottom and a twin size on the top. If space is a concern, two twins that fit one on top of the other might be the best option.

When buying a bunk bed you should ensure the guardrail along side the wall runs the whole length of the bed and the guardrail should extend at least 5 inches above the mattress surface to stop children rolling off. The ladder should be strong and securly fixed to ensure it does not slip when a child steps on it. The mattress should be an exact fit and you should also ensure there are no other hazards close to the bunk such as a ceiling fan.

Assembly of the bunk bed is another important consideration. Some of them may appear easy to put together, but they can be difficult once you've begun. Be certain to read the directions in full before beginning your project.

Read the warranty before you buy your bunk bed and make sure it covers your requirements. The seller should be able to help you with any queries you have.

When the bunk bed is delivered and before you start to assemble it make sure you check it for any damage. You should also ensure all the parts are working and are not missing. If anything is wrong immediately get back to the supplier and ask them to put the problem right.
